Snowpeople

Well I must say, you would be hard pressed to find a winter or Christmas card on my blog. I just don't really make many cards with winter themes. But I happen to find a sentiment stamp about "snow people", so there you have it.

I decided to participate in 2 challenges: ABC Challenge where "D is Die Cuts" and Caardvarks DRS Designs Sketch challenge. If you have never shopped at the DRS Designs website, you must check it out - It is absolutely AWESOME! Though I have not purchased anything from them yet... I have added a link in my "Favorite Places to Shop". So if you get a chance, go on over there and browse a bit.

Ok, back to business... Here is Sketch #2 from Heidi Van Laar for the Caardvarks challenge:

And here is my take:

I just love these colors together - the blue with the white and black, and the touch or red in the ribbon and the sentiment. I just might have to make more winter cards with this color scheme!

Ok , so the engineer in me says that if D is for Die Cuts, then technically I should be using a die to make the shapes. But I decided to use my Cricut machine and opted for electronic cuts instead.

I made 2 snowflake borders with the Cricut Doodlecharms cartridge. Then I layered them so that the snowflakes were staggered, and I raised the top layer for some dimension.

The snowman was also cut with Doodlecharms. I added some red grosgrain ribbon with a button, secured with some brown hemp cord.

Finally I cut the scalloped squares for the sentiment using the Nestabilities Labels dies (had to get a die cut in there somewhere). I added a strip of gems at the bottom and some gems in the snowflakes for some sparkle.

Thanks for Looking!
